i think i was always a reader, an ist. I remember the first sort of book of cot and court serious literature that i read was smith's journalist by p g Woodhouse. And so throughout my childhood, that was what i did. You've spoken about how when you wrote about cricket, you looked at it as a metaphor for a bigger thing. Is that how you see yourself as well? Or just some kind of magpie like obsession with small, interesting things? A lot of this comes from people that you and i would both have read when we were growing up - cardus Haldane in particular.
