This assumes there is a self to know. Some core set of principles, a kind of a fuzzy sphere of characteristics that's roughly you through the lifespan. There is no self, but there's the experience of being one and trying to be one. And that process, I think, is absolutely critical for our mental health. But it's a very important means by which we can kind of grasp the reins of ourselves and change what we're doing or make health relevant changes.
