There are people who would argue that we're starting to see the US less interested in being the security guarantor for the region. I'm more agnostic on that argument than a lot of other people are, he says. Once peak demand hits and the Gulf producers get closer to the point where they are quote unquote the last men standing, I think that security relationship is going to enter a new phase. That depends on how our use of oil evolves alongside those events.
