"It's all about the micro fluctuations of the mind. You start a story with nothing in mind, you pick it up and suddenly there's a screw or whoever," he says. "The weird thing is just thinking back on the time when I felt the biggest mess versus the time that was around me at the time" He adds: "I don't know why I feel that more urgently now that you're 63."
