The Importance of Expected Value

One of the things I found hilarious just inside myself when I was reading his books is suddenly all of the advice that my parents and grandparents had given me as a kid, which had scorned, suddenly became very sexy. He has it's really good at metaphor and examples that stick with you. And he reminds you that there's a distribution of events, and some of them aren't just not as good as the average. They're deadly. You really ought to spend more attention worrying about what he calls a ruin than say this average or the standard deviation.
