What Is the Faunouri to the Sea?

Boat spirits were sometimes attributed with ladling water into ships and causing them o sink. But they were also said to simply hold ships in place. Some have theorized that this might occur due to dead water. It's a nautical phenomenon which you see take at least a couple of different forms.
