If you don't want to hang out with yourself, not even for a night, that screams you are not happy with your current circumstances. And this is going to make you want to compare yourself to want to know what everyone else is doing. So instead of using it as a tool to reassure you, it ends up hurting you. It's okay to think, Oh, that would have been nice to be there. But good friends aren't trying to create an inside joke without inviting you in. That's not a friend. I always say anxiety is the distance between where you are now and where you should be," she says.
