The Importance of the Self in a Depression
White depression usually refers less to the dramatic darkening of one's life than to its quiet, unseen companion. It is as if all external vigor perishes in the emptiness within, loses all meaning and cannot spark that inner fire that warms and sustains experience. Under such circumstances, it is difficult to continuously remain emotionally invested in anything. And what if I do achieve my goals? What then? Somehow, none of it really means anything in the end.
