Greenspan, of course, was the fed chairman time. The good news about the us economy is that it fell into recession, but it didn't fall off a cliff. But the fed's dramatic interest rate cuts helped keep housing strong even as business investment plunged. This was the classic case of trying to help the master builder by getting him drunk.
