The Meaning of Thought Experiments

A thought experiment is a story that helps us clarify our thinking about things. Einstein would wonder when he was a kid what it was like to write on a beam of light. And I think at the time he wasn't trying to test any principle. He was just letting his imagination go. It's a kind of a thought experiment. So depending on how we define a thought experiment, that might count or it might not.
