There are international agreements in place to reduce the carbon dioxide omissions from international aviation. If you were to adopt measures to avoid making contrals, you would have to make sure that you could safelye a lot of aircraft. In areas such as over the north atlantic, where there are relatively few aircraft, that might be feasible. But in very heavily traffic air space like over europe, that may be very, very difficult. There is hope if air traffic controllers can get their heads around the contrail problem. And in the meantime, scientists and engineers will continue to improve fuel efficiency and aircraft engine designs.
