The Rise of Immigrants in the United States

According to Pew Research, the share of U.S. immigrants born in Mexico and Central and South America grew from 20% in 1970 to 31% in 1980 to 41% in 1990. NAFTA's effects were greatly detrimental to workers internationally, specifically workers in Mexico. The architects of NAFTA promised to raise the wages and standards of living for Mexican people closer to the United States and Canada. Public citizen reported that by 2019, 25 years after the enactment of NAFTA, wages in Mexico had fallen below pre-NAFTA levels.
