The Pros and Cons of Emancipation
LZ Granderson: White majority believed emancipation did only mean release from bondage. He says black people wanted freedom to mean everything that slavery did not. LZ: We see extensive violence from 1865 on forward, before African Americans get the right to vote. "We don't even know how many African Americans are killed going back to farms and plantations," he says.
