How Do You Find Your Voice on the Instrument?

I'm not sure howyou find my voice. I think i do have my own sound. And with that sound comes intonation, decent intonation. A reason no choice. Is the way th you record your base now, different than the way you did it in the sixties or seventies? Well, everything has changed since then. So many different kinds of strings.
