The Causes of Transient Monocular Vision Loss
Transient vision loss due to embly usually resolves in a few minutes, and is basically a TIA of the eye as we've all been taught. But there's also an entity that's more like the angina of the eye called ocular ischemia, and is usually due to carotid stenosis. Venus occlusion obviously can also cause vision loss. Causes isolated to the global orbit can be excluded by examining the eye. Associated symptoms like headache or some of the precipitating factors could point towards migraine or optic neuritis - but these things are generally easily diagnosed on physical exam.
