Edwin Edwards and the Louisiana Governor-Elect's Party
Edwin Edwards won the 1983 election with 62% of the vote. He chartered two jumbo jets and invited anyone willing to contribute $10,000 to come on along. More than 600 people joined him in Paris for what was touted as the largest single political fundraiser ever thrown by an American politician. The governor also received a warm greeting from a nun outside Notre Dame Cathedral.
