Admiral Spruence's Choice of a Battleship as a Flagship
Admiral Spruence decided to make Indianapolis his flagship. She carried nine 8-inch rifles, nine eight-inch rifles and three triple gun turrets. FDR made Indianapolis his home many times over the period early to mid to late 1930s. Andy served as FDR's ship of state during first portion of his presidency.
