How to Predict Endangerment Status in Dogs

Baltho was a dog that died 90 years ago, but his DNA can still be recovered. Researchers were able to piece together and understand Baltho's genetics in comparison to modern dogs. This research is all part of the Zoonomia project which catalogues genetic diversity in over 240 species of mammals. Aligning and comparing these genomes can show researchers just how mammals are genetically similar or different. The database also has the potential to make much more practical impacts - such as helping protect endangered species.
