Miyazaki: Is It Better to Use Negative Space?
Miyazaki talks about this in an interview in 2002. He says, if you just have non-stop action with no breathing space at all, it's just busyness. But if you take a moment, then the tension building in the film can grow into a wider dimension. When you're making things from a place of fear or we're going to lose viewers, I think you start makingthings from a very sort of additive place as opposed to a subtractive space.
