What Are Your Strengths as a Writer?
I'm not thinking about something lofty, like where will this be in the pantheon of books? You know, will be on a shelf. I never think of those questions because the future isn't there yet. It's more like grappling with a problem that's in front of you. And also because I am older. I've lost my husband twice. So I don't have the emotions that other people have and it's naive to think that people can just start over again. As Greg Grine said in the Charles Dickens novel, quote, a man wears out. But somebody who's already been married four or five times, the next time is not going to be like the first time
