John Gaddis: President Johnson faced a dilemma when it came to Vietnam. He says he was persuaded by domino theory, but also rejected the possibility of Titoism. The North Vietnamese are now at the forefront of trying to keep China and Russia together; they don't want them playing each other off against one another. But if US not gone into North Vietnam, certainly there were still these real tensions between in the communist camp. And I think what you would have seen was China basically becoming the dominant power over all of Asia.
