The First Mercater

Gerardes mercater was arrested and imprisoned for seven months in 15 forty four. Authorities framed this trip as a flight from justice, spicious of earlier correspondence he'd had with religious scholars. It's not entirely clear what his religious convictions actually were. In about 15 52, mercater moved to dusburg, where he lectured at the university of dusburg and helped establish a school. He taught math and helped create the mathematics curriculum there.
