Is That What Happened to Mars?
The earth will eventually solidify. I don't know if that will happen before or after the sun consumes us. But like if you just would have left the earth on an onitone, it would eventually be a solid block of uniform temperature. The things that are keeping the earth warm are the insulation, but also a couple of things that are adding heat. They will not add heat forever, but they are adding heat right now.
