Is Your Brain Predicting the World?

The world is rarely completely surprising to us. It's because there are statistical regularities that our brain learns in the flow of sensory information. When you see a spider, your brain is usually seeing a spider and it's starting to prepare to see a spider before you actually see the spider. If you're afraid of bees and you've been stung by bees, then when you're in a situation that where the statistical regularities make it likely that there's some probability that a bee will emerge, your brain is already going to start to prepare you for the physical response.
