Some people have framed the book as a series of short stories. But it's more directly intertwined than that. The only reason you would call it like a group of short stories is because it is jumping and covering so much time. It does seem to kind of want its cake and eat it too, like it wants to be poking fun at the idea of it. And have you kind of enjoy that it's connected.
