The whole point of the table is to actualize jesus presence as you eat and drink. The idea behind this practice is to enjoy jesus company, but also that of your friend or your family. So it's about communion with jesus. But without such a discipline, we will always be tempted to take god's work into our own hands instead of recognizing his work, submitting to it and participating in it.
