What's Going to Happen in the Universe?
Everything in the universe is turning into a black hole. Some stars just catastrophically collapse into black holes. Why on earth should things turn into iron? The reason is a slightly tricky thing. Each successive chemical element has a larger number of protons in its nucleus. So when you have a big, a big star, and you've sort of smoshd together all these nuclei, actually, it'll turn into one big nucleus. That's what a neutron star is - a ten kilometer across, giant, single atomic nucleus.
