Andrew Sean Greer grew up outside of DC to scientist parents. He started writing ghost stories at the age of 10. In one interview he talked about when he came out to his parents as gay and that's also, it spurred his mother to come out. "I want people to be able to share who they are with the people in their lives"

This week’s book tackles aging and writing and the author’s determination to write a book about a gay character who is allowed to experience joy. These are all themes that hit us where we live as we trundle into early middle age ourselves.
