Shannon's Master's Thesis on Genetics - Is That Correct?
In his master thesis, Shannon grew out some very basic circuit designs for arrangements and circuits that could make decisions. This is one of the just fundamental building blocks of the computers we still use including to record this podcast. He had zero background in computing before he started the master's thesis. The fact that Bush wanted him to get involved in statistical genetics was really, you know, sort of a vote of confidence from a guy like George W. Bush.
