We have been rushing to evolve a capacity to read other people's lives, but then we have also evolved the capacity to hide her own lives. So it's an arms race that has ended up in a sort of stalemate. I just think it can happen that sympathy with a person can make you less likely to suspect that they are lying. People generally have very bad at it.
