The $6 million score board, a new technology at the time, nearly caused the umpires to boycott the game. According to the umpiring crew, players begin to argue calls more frequently after seeing video evidence that they believed proved their case. MLB would not officially begin using instant replay to verify or overturn umpiring calls until the 2008 season.
