What Is Public Body Abolition?
Public bodies are bits of government that aren't departments and usually have some independence from ministers. Since 2010, as you said, the number has been reduced from about 800 to about 300. In specific cases, often public bodies are abolished to try and save some money or integrate functions that work better together. Sometimes the reason is just to get rid of a certain leader or to show that you're doing something on a problem.
