The genres are more hinting at what types of story you're telling, not necessarily what type of audience would be interested in the story. Buddy loves usually have the requirements of two individuals that are buddies. Usually there's something that they can teach themselves about each other. There's usually a complication that either keeps them together or forces them apart. And those are called golden fleece stories.
