Alfred Adler developed a term called a ghost child and they're basically born after the death of the first child so parents may become overprotective. They rebel against being compared to an idolized memory that this child has a very complicated growing up because they don't understand necessarily where the attachment is coming from. A scapegoat identity can help us individuate who we are according to Christ, says Mary Richards.
