The Difference Between Duty and Love in Kant's Ethics
In his ethics, Immanuel Kant has this distinction between duty and love. Is that somehow similar to this distinction you're making between a kind of role, embedded love and a solidarity love? Well, I think probably not. The duty in the liberal tradition is more a communitarian duty or it's a duty to help each other. But this is a committed, caring kind of a duty. It's a duty of being a human being.
