The Battle of Sebu
On May 1st, Humaban invited the Spanish to a feast in his village. About 30 men, mostly officers, including the newly elected captain generals, Barbosa and Serrano, accepted. Antonio Piga Feta was recovering from a wound he had taken in the recent melee and stayed on board ship. The Sebuans waited until the end of the feast, then they struck. Twenty-seven men were reportedly killed, including Barbosa. With the Spanish gone, Humaban would no longer have the support of Spanish guns.
