The Paradox of Individualism
The word individuation there feels confusing to me. Probably because I have a meaning, I'm from Texas. So when I hear it I map it more in the direction of that which is stands opposed to communitarianism. It's more like individualism as opposed to individuation. But then I notice what you're saying that I also have an awareness of it in the context of child development. That a child as teenagers, adolescents are individuating - discovering who they are by virtue of themselves and becoming capable of being responsible.
