In 1862 the British cabinet discussed whether to intervene in the civil war. There are arguments that Lancashire needs the cotton, of course. And there are calls that Britain should use its good offices to bring the two sides together. Now the cabinet is split and it's rather interesting. In many ways the heavyweights in the cabinet have some sympathy with the south. But more radical figures in the cabinet are opposed to breaking the blockade,. intervening and recognising the Confederacy.
