The Debt Ceiling Conversation and Debate
President Biden invited House Speaker McCarthy and other congressional leaders to the White House next week for meeting to discuss debt ceiling on May 9th. How much do these federal spending programs that Republicans want to cut actually contribute to the national debt? That's a complicated question. But suffice to say, there are a number of drivers of US debt. Some of it involves spending that the US government already has announced and enacted by both parties.
