The Effects of the Industrial Revolution on the Nature of Productivity
It's completely plausible that for a number of these risks, there's nothing people can do to have an impact on them. In the case of AI, it's human cognitive labor no longer being invaluable. I think in both those major historical cases, though, it's really not very clear at all that people could have done much to haveAn impact on the most significant lasting changes that those revolutions brought. And I think determining what the impact of technology is on the world in the long run will probably be more about competitive pressures than anything else.
