The 1960s are a very complicated period in the history of Brazil. There was always a fight between different groups, not only regionally, but also left doing vis-a-vis right wing. And one of the things that really threatened the political elite at the time was this prospect of push for land reform. So there's a combination of economic shocks that happen that really increase inflation, increase unemployment and made the population being very dissatisfied with the elite. More conservative groups organizing themselves to try to block all this progressive agenda until it becomes an appointment where there is a political gridlock and the military does a coup d'etat.
