My Father Was a Civil Rights Hero
Cleveland Sellers was 10 years old when young Emmett Till was brutally murdered and thrown in the bottom of the Mississippi River. Bakari's father is Cleveland Sellers, a man who led sit-ins in his hometown of Denmark, South Carolina. He went to Howard University where he met prominent civil rights organizer Stokely Carmichael. And then he got a phone call that some of his friends had gone missing. His activism was perked at a very young age.
