What Was Bretton Woods?
After the real gold standard ended in 1934, every country was kind of pegging their currency to a arbitrary value of gold. The Bretton Woods system persisted until 1971 when Nixon announced direct convertibility from dollars to gold would end. Ultimately, it was about having enough gold to back the amount of money that was out there.
