When I was in high school, there was no cell phones. And then to my son, right, I do become a bit of a, it was Alan B. Chinon who wrote a really great book as a follow up to Iron John called Beyond the Hero. He talks about how the father in this setup can also be somewhat of a trickster figure in the child's life. The kid doesn't know what his dad did all day. He just knows that he comes back, stressed, drained.
