Why the Romans Used Vowel Letters for Vowel and Consonant Sounds

In English, those sounds in that position at the front of syllables have their own letters, W and Y. The Romans felt that the letters I and you could handle all of those sounds without a problem. And as a result, those letters were destined to create a lot of confusion in the following centuries.
