In every stable culture, the willingness to not only ratify, but hold in considerable esteem older people is basically cultural self interest. Is that what the proliferation of older people in our midst means to us to day? Ask the younger people what it means to them and i dare say you will not get anything like the answer that i just gave you. That all those grey heads among us mean that we're getting it, that we figured it out. They are the palpable sign that our humanity is waxing,. Our capacity to be human in a sustaining and sustainable way is now manifest among us.
