Romanus Diojenis - A History of the Byzantine Empire

Romanus the fourth was born during a period of relative instability. His father, constantine diogenis, was a high standing byzantine military general. The unstable political situation allowed the selju turks to raid byzantine territories. Romanus would befriend another aristocratic byzantine family in order to counterbalance the threat of the ducai to his throne.
