The Importance of Beauty in Mathematics
Angie Hobbs is a philosopher with great knowledge of the classical world. Plato had, above his academy, the motto slogan, admonition, paraphrasing it, if you don't know about geometry, don't enter here. This was a very important moment in Plato's life when he realized that something as beautiful as music could be put into mathematical ratios. He seems to have come back to Greece thinking that everything good and positive and valuable in the world could be put either into a numerical ratio or maybe was even a number.
