The Battle of the Blackfeet
Louis lewis and his three men followed the marias river for ten days. They came across a small band of blackfeet warriors, who seemed friendly at first. The news that america planned to sell firearms to their enemies was far from welcome. Louis went to sleep believing he had notched up an important diplomatic victory. He saw one of his men wrestling with a blackfeet warrior who was trying to steal his rifle. But next morning, the blackfeet's attempted robbery had already turned fatal. Two of lewis's men caught one of the thieves and stabbed him through the heart. Meanwhile, the two remaining blackfeet began driving away the corp's horses. As lewis
