I Don't Want to Innovate This Patient Because I Think Intubation May Cause Them to Die

The act of innovating is not just recognizing the progression of their disease, it is changing it. A great example of this was during COVID. We understood that patients whose respiratory failure from COVID portended overall a relatively poor prognosis. But what some people reasonably asked and in some cases probably twisted was the idea that intubating them would cause them to become very ill.
